Assertive Communication Techniques for the Facilitator Communication and listening skills are at the core of facilitating any learning experience.  They help facilitators to meaningfully engage learners, manage group dynamics and address challenging participant behaviours. You’ll leave this session with practical tips and techniques to help you communicate assertively while facilitating a group process. Topics: Describe the elements of effective communication within facilitated learning experiences and/or processes. Describe the importance and power of positive non-verbal communication. Apply a minimum of three (3) assertive communication techniques. Identify personal goals for enhancing assertive communication skills. Facilitator:    Gerard Murphy   Barefoot Facilitation Inc.

Gerard Murphy lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia and is the proud owner of Barefoot Facilitation Inc. 

A naturally fun, dynamic and engaging facilitator, Gerard is passionate about creating space for people to engage in conversations that count – that is, conversations that have impact and stretch people’s potential for growth and success! 
Gerard works nationally and provincially to provide facilitation, training and consulting services to clients within the voluntary, public and private sectors.


He is a graduate of the School of Health and Human Performance at Dalhousie University.  With a commitment to lifelong learning, he has completed further studies in public participation, community-based development and leadership development. Gerard is a Board Member of the Nova Scotia Chapter of the Institute for Performance and Learning and is a confirmed Professional Member of the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers.
